On a beautiful August Sunday near the beginning of my
summer journey, I had the pleasure of attending Valley
Church (Cupertino) with Steve and Marion Noble.
After Sunday fellowship and services, we joined friends
for a delicious lunch and delightful conversation. Marion,
a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and CAPS member
since 1995, recently started a new ministry at the church,
“Women Helping Women,” which provides confidential
support and encouragement to women through one-on-one
meetings with a trained listener.
An intimate group of women gathered that afternoon at
Marion’s home to meet the CAPS West Regional Director,
to enjoy fellowship, and to explore potential opportunities
in the Bay Area. The ensuing discussion highlighted some
of the benefits of CAPS:
- Availability of high-quality, research-based workshops
and presentations
- Hearing colleagues share new approaches to therapy
- Open dialogue about the integration of psychology
and faith
- Networking with other professionals
- Peer consultation groups
I really appreciated the Noble’s generous hospitality,
as well as Steve’s technical expertise. He updated
my computer and programmed my new digital camera while
Marion and I were meeting with the CAPS group.
Thanks, Marion and Steve!

CAPS
at the BASS Annual Church Workers Convention
by Helen Shaw, MS
Area Coordinator
On March 4th, 5th, and 6th, nearly 4000 church leaders
gathered for the 2004 Bay Area Sunday School Association
(BASS) Annual Church Workers Convention. This year’s
convention was once again a delightful experience, seeing
old friends and making new acquaintances. I answered many
questions about CAPS, Christian schools, and training
programs, and provided referrals for many who stopped
by the CAPS booth to chat. A couple of people I talked
with came from as far as Modesto.
The CAPS booth was one of about 60 exhibits including
Hosanna Homes, Gospel Light Publishing, and Fuller Theological
Seminary. Over 150 leaders presented numerous workshops
in 21 special tracks for all age groups and representative
groups within the Church, including a counseling track.
If you are interested in presenting next year applications
must be submitted by April. Contact Helen Shaw khtshaw@pacbell.net
for assistance in obtaining an application.
